Arsenal is nearing an agreement to capture Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
The Gunners are looking to strengthen their defense this summer, and the 22-year-old is at the top of their transfer wishlist.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the transaction could be completed next week. Negotiations between the two parties appear to be nearing completion, and encouraging interactions have lately occurred.
Arsenal is now negotiating financial arrangements with Ajax, and the midfielder is set to have his medical with the Premier League team shortly after.
Timber was an important player for Ajax this season, and he is likely to be a good long-term investment for Arsenal.
Aside from his defensive abilities, his adaptability will be an asset to the Gunners next season.
The 22-year-old Dutch international can play as both a center defender and a full-back. Depending on the opposition, he could play a variety of roles.

Mikel Arteta needed to bring in defensive reinforcements when Arsenal appeared vulnerable at the end of last season. The addition of Timber will undoubtedly enhance Arsenal, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to launch another title bid next season.
Last season, Arsenal came within a whisker of defeating Manchester City for the Premier League title, and they will be expecting to go all the way again next season. They have already signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea, while Arsenal is closing in on Declan Rice and Timber.
