Barcelona confident deal for Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez on track

Barcelona want to sign Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez this weekend.

Martinez’s contract expires on Friday, and Barcelona wants him to get a medical before signing a two-year contract extension until 2025.

The defender had minor surgery earlier in June, but Barcelona expects him to be ready for the start of preseason training on July 10.

Martinez is expected to arrive at La Masia on Saturday for examinations with Barcelona’s medical staff.

Barcelona intends to organize his signing ceremony the following week.
