Manchester City take massive step towards signing Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic ahead of UCL final

Mateo Kovacic

Mateo Kovacic will join the ranks of Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield revamp after leaving Chelsea earlier this season. The Croatian midfielder, 29, is focused on the Nations League. Regardless, Manchester City is the frontrunner in obtaining him.

Manchester City fans are overjoyed that Mateo Kovacic has agreed to personal terms. Chelsea is also interested in selling the Croatian. According to Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sport, the next stage for City and Chelsea will be a transfer fee talk following the UEFA Champions League Final.

With the addition of the Croatian, the midfield will become more dangerous. Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish will all be delighted to see the Croatian. In an earlier statement with Nacional, Kovacic claimed that Manchester City is the location for him, according to Jonathan Gorrie of the Evening Standard.

“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens. Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens,” said Kovacic.

Pep Guardiola may lose midfielder Ilkay Gundongan to Arsenal, Barcelona, and Saudi Arabian clubs. Kovacic is the ideal ball-playing central midfielder with penetrative passing who might take his place.

If this new signing goes through, an offensive line led by Kovacic and Erling Haaland will torment football for years to come. Manchester City’s domination will continue.
