OFFICIAL: Lionel Messi has been crowned Ligue 1’s ‘Best Foreign Player of the Season 2022/2023.’
In the Ligue 1 2022/2023 season, Lionel Messi assisted 16 goals and scored 16 goals in 32 games.
Messi’s time at PSG may be finished, but he continues to win honors. During both of his seasons with Les Parisiens, the former Barcelona forward won the Ligue 1 title.He has now been named the season’s top foreign player.
Last season, La Pulga has the most assists of any player in Ligue 1, with Neymar close behind with 13. Messi was outscored by nine players (Kylian Mbappé, Alexandre Lacazette, Jonathan David, Los Openda, Folarin Balogun, Habib Diallo, Wissam Ben Yedder, Elye Wahi, and Terem Moffi).
Despite some outstanding numbers for PSG last season, the club as a whole fell short of their goals. Les Parisiens retained their Ligue 1 title but were eliminated from the Champions League and Coupe de France early. Messi won neither tournament with PSG and has decided to join MLS club Inter Miami when his contract expires.
Messi scored 32 goals in 75 games in all competitions in his two seasons with PSG after joining from Barcelona in 2021.
Despite guiding the club to back-to-back league victories, he was unable to lead them to their first Champions League victory.

PSG suspended Messi for two weeks in May after he went on an unapproved two-day trip to Saudi Arabia as part of his ambassadorial duties for the country.
Messi returned to Christophe Galtier’s squad after an apology, but his departure was confirmed a few days later.
Messi returned to his hometown of Rosario over the weekend for a testimonial game for ex-teammate Maxi Rodriguez before doing the same in Buenos Aires for Juan Roman Riquelme.
‘It’s a very good feeling to have been able to be at [Riquelme’s] testimonial, with all that he means for football in Argentina, what he means to Boca, to be back in ‘La Bombonera,’ Messi told Argentine Public Television, according to Goal.

Messi scored a hat-trick in the first half in front of 42,000 fans, who sung ‘happy birthday’ to him after he turned 36 on Saturday.
In an Instagram picture commemorating Messi’s birthday, Inter Miami attempted to tease his new shirt number.
The squad tagged Messi in an Instagram graphic that said ‘Feliz Cumple’ – Spanish for ‘happy birthday’ – with the ‘le’ at the end painted to seem like the number ’10’.
