Steven Gerrard returns to managing after joining a Saudi team.

After putting up a fight with his new employers, Steven Gerrard has returned to management in Saudi Arabia.

The former Rangers and Aston Villa manager has been named the new head coach of Al-Ettifaq, just weeks after claiming their contract offer was inadequate.

Despite initially stating that he would not be coming, Liverpool great Gerrard will take over as manager of the Saudi club with the intention of fighting for the title next season.

Gerrard, who has been out of work since leaving Aston Villa last season, denied taking the position in Saudi earlier this month.

‘I was invited over there to look at a prospective offer, and I’ve been analyzing it, but where I stand right now, I won’t be accepting it,’ he explained.

However, talks have resumed, and the former England captain is the latest high-profile figure to join the Saudi Pro League.

According to Mail Sport, Al Ettifaq executives, who are presently in London finalizing Gerrard’s appointment, have persuaded Gerrard of their plan to become the dominant force in the Saudi Pro League.

Gerrard will be followed by a number of high-profile European stars in the following days, with the club prepared to spend extensively to construct a team capable of winning trophies.
