Mixed martial arts career

In the summer of 2009, Alex Garcia made his professional debut at AFC 1 against Joel Vales. In the first round, he submitted the opponent to win the match. In his next five fights, Garcia would prevail by knockout in all but one of them, winning them all. At Ringside MMA 10, Garcia suffered his first professional defeat by way of a knockout loss to UFC veteran Seth Baczynski in the contest for the interim Ringside Welterweight title. Following the defeat, Garcia went on to win four more matches in a row, winning three of them in the opening round.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Alex Garcia’s  signing with the UFC was announced on October 8, 2013, and he was scheduled to make his debut at UFC Fight Night 33 against fellow newcomer Andreas Stahl. Stahl was forced to withdraw due to an injury. Ben Wall, a former contestant on TUF Smashes, was Garcia’s new opponent for the competition. At just 43 seconds into the first round, Garcia knocked out the opponent to win the fight.

At UFC 171, Garcia next faced Sean Spencer on March 15, 2014. He prevailed in the close contest by split decision.

On August 2, 2014, at UFC 176, Garcia was supposed to take on promotional newcomer Matt Dwyer. But Dwyer withdrew from the fight due to an injury, and Neil Magny took his place. Magny/Garcia was subsequently rescheduled after UFC 176 was postponed and eventually happened on August 23, 2014, at UFC Fight Night 49. The judges all agreed that he was defeated.

At UFC 189 on July 11, 2015, Garcia fought Mike Swick. He was declared the winner by a unanimous vote.

On February 21, 2016, Alex Garcia fought Sean Strickland at UFC Fight Night 83. He lost the fight by third-round TKO after a back-and-forth first two rounds.
