A professional from 2005 to 2019, he competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Bellator MMA, and Jungle Fight, where he was the inaugural Welterweight Champion. He is also former UFC Bantamweight fighter Gabriel Silva’s big brother.[6]

Silva signed with the UFC in early 2011. At UFC 134, he was expected to make his UFC debut against Mike Swick. However, on August 4, 2011, it was announced that Swick would be forced to withdraw from the bout due to a knee injury and that Luis Ramos would take his place. Silva won by TKO in the first round due to punches.

Erik Silva was scheduled to face promotional newcomer Siyar Bahadurzada on January 14, 2012, at UFC 142. Bahadurzada was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury and was replaced by Carlo Prater. Silva quickly followed a left knee to the body after missing a looping right hook in the opening seconds, effectively knocking Prater down. Prater grabbed Silva’s knee and held on to his leg while Silva swung his hammer fists and punched him in the head. Throughout the onslaught, the referee, Mario Yamasaki, constantly urged Silva not to smash the back of the head. When Prater appeared to be incapacitated and unable to defend himself properly, Yamasaki interfered and stopped the conflict. Despite appearing to be victorious, Yamasaki disqualified Silva for back-of-the-head strikes. The DQ was later confirmed by the UFC.

Erik Silva then faced Charlie Brenneman on June 8, 2012, at UFC on FX 3. Silva won the fight with a rear-naked choke late in the first round.

Erik Silva fought Jon Fitch on October 13, 2012, at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Silva was defeated in three rounds by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, and 29-28). For their efforts, both boxers were chosen Fight of the Night.

Silva was supposed to fight Jay Hieron on February 2, 2013 at UFC 156. However, owing to an injury, Silva withdrew from the fight and was replaced by promotional newcomer Tyron Woodley.

On September 6, 2018, Erik Silva announced that he has signed a multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. Silva was set to make his promotional debut against Lorenz Larkin on October 1, 2018, but was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

Silva made his official debut against Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 216 on February 16, 2019.He was beaten by a unanimous vote.
