Landry Michael Shamet (born March 13, 1997), is an American professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Wichita State Shockers and was selected 26th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018 NBA draft. He has also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and Phoenix Suns.

Landry Shamet Biography, EarlyLife

Shamet was born on March 13, 1997, in Kansas City, Missouri, to a single mother Melanie Shamet.[1] His mother went to Boise State University on a volleyball scholarship. His father, Ron Davis, was a professional basketball player who Shamet did not know about until he was a teenager and met for the first time in 2021.[2]

His uncle Tyler was a positive influence in his life growing up, and his extended family also provided support in his development. Shamet began playing basketball at the age of two. When he was in middle school, his family went bankrupt after the mortgage increased and they lost their apartment.[3]

Shamet briefly attended Desborough College before attending Park Hill High School in Kansas City, where he was coached by David Garrison[3] He was a student in the Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) college preparatory program.

After joining Wichita State University, Landry played only three games during his freshman season due to his foot injury.

Even though Shamet played for only three games, he became the nation’s best freshman point guard and soon paved his way toward becoming the Wichita State Shockers’ point guard for his sophomore year.

During his freshman year, he received honors like the MVC Freshman of the Year and First-team MVC All-Conference. 

Moreover, moving on to his sophomore season, Laundry won the Preseason First Team All-AAC. He was one of fifty players that were on the Preseason Wooden Award watch list.

Shamet was one of two sophomores that made it to the 2018 Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list.

He scored a career-high of 30 points and led Wichita State’s to win against Oklahoma State on December 9th, 2017.

Furthermore, he also led the AAC in various categories. Laundry also helped lead the Shockers on to the NCAA Tournament every season he played.

Following his sophomore season, Shamet declared for the 2018 NBA draft.

Professional Career

Philadelphia 76ers 

During the 2018 NBA draft, Laundry was taken by the Philadelphia 76ers as the 26th pick. He proved himself during the 2018 preseason with an 18-point score in a victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

His second performance that made an impression was when he scored 12 points in just 19 minutes during a win against Orlando.

Moreover, he scored a career-high of 29 points on January 8th, 2019, in a victory over the Washington Wizards, including a rookie record of 8 three-pointers.

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Shamet to Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Boban Marjanovic, Tobias Harris, and Mike Scott.

“We also admire Landry, a first-round pick from Wichita State, since last year’s draft process. He has only proved expectations. He quickly earned a spot in the Philadelphia 76ers rotation and since then has been the most accurate three-point shooter in this year’s rookie class……”

He scored 17 points in the game, from which 13 were scored in the 4th quarter while playing against the Boston Celtics.
