Al Mokawloon

Al Ahly was Elneny’s youth football team. He moved to Al Mokawloon in 2008 and played there from 2010 to 2011. Elneny advanced and settled into the starting lineup as a regular. The Egyptian Premier League was suspended and all remaining games of the 2011–12 Egyptian Premier League were postponed following the Port Said Stadium disaster in early February 2012. The Egyptian Football Association made the decision to halt the rest of the season public on March 10, 2012.


FC Basel invited Elneny to their training camp in Estepona from January 14 to 24, 2013, after keeping an eye on him for a while. On January 18, 2013, Elneny made his unofficial debut during a friendly game against Steaua București that ended in a 1-1 draw. During the training camp, Elneny made an impression on Basel’s coach Murat Yakin, and on January 29, 2013, it was revealed that he had signed a loan agreement with Basel that would last until the end of June 2013. Elneny made his official Basel debut in the 2012–13 Swiss Super League on February 10, 2013, as a halftime substitute in a 3-0 home victory over Sion.

Mohamed Elneny won the Championship title and finished second in the Swiss Cup with Basel at the conclusion of the Swiss Super League season 2012–2013. Basel advanced to the semifinals of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League, where they faced Chelsea, the current champions of the competition, but they were eliminated after losing both of their home matches and going down 2–5 overall.

Basel revealed in May 2013 that they had exercised their option to permanently sign the Egyptian midfielder. He agreed to a four-year contract that runs through June 30, 2017. Mohamed Elneny and FC Basel had a very successful season in 2014–15. That year, they won the title for the sixth time straight and advanced to the Swiss Cup final. Basel participated in the Champions League’s group stage and advanced to the knockout round after pulling off a 1-1 draw at Anfield against Liverpool on December 9, 2014. The signing of Elneny from FC Basel was officially announced by Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger on January 13, 2016, following a 3-3 draw with Liverpool. The transfer was formally announced by the club the following day for an undisclosed sum that was reportedly between £5 million and £7.4 million. He was given the Arsenal jersey with the number 35. On January 30, he made his club debut in a 2-1 FA Cup victory over Burnley, making history by becoming the first Egyptian to play for Arsenal. Elneny scored his first goal for Arsenal in the defeat to FC Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 match and was subsequently named Arsenal’s Player of the Month for the month of March. In April, he continued to shine while working well with Aaron Ramsey, earning him a second consecutive Player of the Month award from Arsenal. Elneny won Arsenal’s goal of the season award with his lone goal. Elneny scored his second goal for Arsenal overall and first at the Emirates Stadium during the 2017–18 campaign’s Europa League Group Stage match against FC BATE Borisov on December 7, 2017. Elneny extended his contract with Arsenal on March 26, 2018. Elneny was dismissed against Southampton on April 8, 2018. In a close game, Jack Stephens, a defender, tangled with Jack Wilshere. Stephens retaliated by receiving a straight red from referee Andre Marriner. Wilshere only received a yellow card, but Elneny later received a red card for pushing future teammate Cédric Soares. Loan to Beşiktaş

Mohamed Elneny signed a season-long loan agreement with Beşiktaş J.K. on August 31, 2019, which included a buyout option. Elneny was dismissed in his Super Lig debut against Gazisehir Gaziantep on September 14th, a 3-2 loss.
