Nick Pope joined non-league team Bury Town in 2008 after leaving Ipswich Town. Pope proved his skill at that level by donning the number one shirt for Bury Town in several first-team games after battling and briefly taking the place of Marcus Garnham.

He was offered a two-year deal after making an impression on the staff during a trial, and the two clubs agreed on a compensation package that included Charlton hosting Suffolk in a pre-season friendly before the 2012–13 season.

Pope agreed to a loan with Harrow Borough of the Isthmian League Premier Division through September 17, 2011. Pope made 19 appearances and made three clean sheets in addition to two penalty kick saves.

On July 19, 2016, Pope agreed to a three-year deal with Burnley, a freshly promoted Premier League team, for an unknown sum. On September 10, 2017, Pope made his Premier League debut, taking Tom Heaton’s place in the first half of a 1-0 home victory over Crystal Palace.

Nick Pope made his Premier League debut the following week, on September 16, 2017, in a 1-1 tie away to Liverpool. On October 9, Pope agreed to an agreement with Burnley that will last until 2020.

In May 2019, Pope agreed to a new deal with Burnley that will initially last until 2023. He participated in every minute of Burnley’s Premier League season in 2019–20, which was productive for him.

Before the season’s final match against Brighton, Pope, and Ederson of Manchester City were tied on clean sheets with 15 each. In the 20th minute of the game against Brighton, Yves Bissouma scored, giving Pope a season-high 15 shutouts.

With Ederson keeping his 16th clean sheet and winning the Golden Glove outright over Pope, Manchester City overcame already-relegated Norwich City 5-0.

On July 11, 2020, Burnley drew 1-1 away against Liverpool, becoming the only team to defeat Liverpool at Anfield that season. Pope received accolades for his performance in the contest, in which he made eight saves to deny Liverpool victory.

On June 23, 2022, Pope agreed to a four-year contract with Newcastle United of the Premier League for an unknown sum that Sky Sports claimed to be £10 million.
