Dynamo Kyiv

Mykolenko, a Cherkasy native, attended the Dynamo Kyiv youth sports school.

He participated for Dynamo in the Ukrainian Premier League Reserves before being promoted to the senior squad team in August 2017. On August 20, 2017, Mykolenko made his Ukrainian Premier League debut for Dynamo Kyiv, participating in a victory over Stal Kamianske. Mykolenko made his UEFA Europa League debut on October 25, 2018, starting in Dynamo’s 2-1 victory over Rennes at Roazhon Park.

In the 2018–19 season of the Ukrainian Premier League, Mykolenko was named the league’s top young player.


Mykolenko signed a four-and-a-half year contract with English club Everton through June 2026 on January 1, 2022, for an undisclosed fee. The team gave him the shirt with the number 19. Due to the ongoing hostilities between his nation and Russia, Mykolenko was appointed Everton’s captain for an FA Cup Fifth Round match against Boreham Wood on March 3, 2022, as a show of goodwill.

Artem Dzyuba, the captain of the Russian national football team, was criticized by Mykolenko in a March 2022 Instagram post for being “silent” while “peaceful civilians were being killed in Ukraine” during the Russian invasion of that country.

International career

Mykolenko played youth football for Ukraine at all levels. At the age of 19, on November 20, 2018, he started his first international match for Ukraine against Turkey. Mykolenko, who is still eligible to play youth football, narrowly missed winning the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup after being selected for the eventual champion Ukraine squad, but he was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury a few days later.
