Real Betis settle on formula for first signing of the summer

Marc Roca

Real Betis are close to completing their first summer signing, with Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca on the agenda.

Roca, a former Espanyol midfielder, has been a target for Los Verdiblancos for about a year, ever since it became evident that he would be leaving Bayern Munich. He moved to the Premier League last summer for a cost of €12 million.

With Leeds now in the Championship, both parties are keen to move on, and it appears like Betis will provide an exit path. According to Gonzalo Tortosa, Betis and Leeds have agreed for Roca to start on loan with the possibility for Betis to make the transaction permanent. He goes on to suggest that Roca is making a financial sacrifice in order to drive the deal through.

Roca will bring another ball-playing midfielder to Betis, who they think can function at the base of the midfield. With Guido Rodriguez capable of doing so, Roca would provide an alternative focused on retaining possession for a longer period of time.
