Real Madrid to make choice between Haaland and Mbappe in 2024
L’Équipe are reporting that Real Madrid will make a choice between Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé next summer.
As reported by the French publication, Mbappé’s contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 season. The France captain has the option to extend for a further year, and he must make a decision whether to do so – or not – by the end of July. L’Équipe report that Mbappé is currently unlikely to trigger that extension.
Given that Mbappé is unlikely to leave PSG this summer, there is a chance of him being available on a free at the end of next season, at which point Real Madrid may have an important decision to make. Los Blancos want to sign a world-class forward next summer, and their choice will be between Haaland and Mbappé.
Despite last summer’s episode, which saw Mbappé remain at the Parc des Princes, Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez would prefer to bring the AS Monaco academy product to the Bernabéu. The La Liga side are particularly enticed by the idea of getting Mbappé on a free, especially given the club’s poor relationship with PSG.
However, if a move is to be made, Mbappé would have to decrease his salary, whilst he would also have to make a positional change given that Vinicius Jr. currently plays on the left.
