Barcelona has recently clashed with Saudi Arabian clubs as the club frantically seeks the return of former superstar Lionel Messi.
However, Messi is not the high-profile Barcelona target that these Saudi teams are after. They have also courted current Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski, according to Mundo Deportivo, just after Al-Ittihad signed Karim Benzema.
However, according to the same article, Lewandowski appears to have turned down the hefty offer from Saudi Arabia. He refuses to leave Barcelona at any cost.
Last summer, the striker made a concerted push to quit Bayern Munich for a move to Barcelona. He wants to be a part of this effort and assist Xavi Hernandez in developing the team around young players.
He also did well in his first season, earning the famous Pichichi award as well as La Liga and the Super Cup. His goal-scoring performances were crucial in Barcelona’s success in Xavi’s first full season in charge.
He is not yet ready to give up and wishes to remain at Barcelona until the conclusion of his contract in 2025.
Not to add, Lewandowski is intrigued by the prospect of creating an attacking partnership with Lionel Messi. The Argentine international was on the verge of joining Al-Hilal, but he recently stalled the talks in order to join Barcelona.
If the Catalans are to re-sign Messi, they must still make an offer. But one thing is certain: the club will keep Lewandowski’s services ahead of the new season, possibly even starting him alongside Messi.
