Saudi’s current transfer plan: Sign all Ballon d’Or winners
Shortly after Karim Benzema agreed to join Al-Ittihad for the upcoming season, Saudi Arabian teams increased their efforts to attract other major footballing talents from across the world.
Al-Hilal, in particular, was dead set on acquiring Lionel Messi’s talents. However, since the Argentine chose to join Inter Miami, Saudi clubs have turned their attention to Luka Modric, according to Miguel Angel Diaz.
According to the Spanish journalist, Saudi Arabian clubs have recently boosted their offer for Modric. They hope to entice the experienced midfielder to the Middle East because Real Madrid has yet to renew his contract.
Diaz argues that the goal for these Saudi Arabian teams is to sign all of the recent Ballon d’Or winners. The project began earlier this year with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo by Al-Nassr.
Following that, Al-Hial attempted to get Messi’s services, but it did not work out. Al-Ittihad, on the other hand, was able to sign Benzema, the most recent winner of the Ballon d’Or.
That leaves Modric as the final option for these Saudi clubs. The operation appears to be underway, with clubs giving the midfielder a substantial salary to entice him away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Modric has stated that he intends to stay at the Bernabeu for at least another month. However, Real Madrid has yet to announce the renewal, leaving the player’s future at the club uncertain, especially with Saudi clubs vying for his talents.
The fact that Real Madrid has signed Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund may complicate Modric’s extension. Although it has been indicated that the Englishman’s presence will have little impact on Modric and Kroos’ roles, the added incentive of earning a handsome income in Saudi Arabia may encourage the veteran to leave this summer.
