Austin FC defeated Minnesota United 4-1 on Saturday night in Saint Paul, Minnesota, thanks to two goals and an assist from Sebastian Driussi.
Austin FC (8-8-5, 29 points) extended its unbeaten record to four games (3-0-1) with goals from Diego Fagundez and Emiliano Rigoni. Brad Stuver ended with a total of six saves.
Clint Irwin made four saves and Devin Padelford scored his first MLS goal for Minnesota United (6-8-6, 24 points).
The Loons, fresh off a 4-1 victory over the Portland Timbers on July 1, dominated the first 30 minutes but failed to capitalize on a few decent scoring chances, including one on a header by Hassani Dotson off an Emanuel Reynoso cross that caromed against the woodwork.
In the 35th minute, Fagundez scored his second goal of the season, a right-footed shot from the left side of the 6-yard box into the far right corner of the net.
In the 45th minute, Driussi made it 2-0 by converting a penalty kick into the right corner of the net. After going over and tripping Jon Gallagher as he charged down the left side of the box, defender Bakaye Dibassy was called for a penalty.
In the 51st minute, Driussi, alone near the back left post, knocked in Ethan Finlay’s crossing pass from outside the right side of the box for his sixth goal of the season, extending Austin’s advantage to 3-0.
In the 85th minute, Padelford headed in Dotson’s glancing header pass off Ismael Tajouri-Sharadi’s corner kick to make it 3-1.
Rigoni completed the goal in the 95th minute, slipping right-footed into an open net following a Driussi cross.
Teemu Pukki, a Finnish striker who spent five seasons with English club Norwich City, made his much-anticipated MLS debut for the Loons in the 56th minute and attempted two shots: a bad-angle right-footed attempt from the right side of the box and another right-footed attempt from the left side of the box. Stuver made simple saves on both occasions.
