Seth Rollins didn’t hold back when it came to Roman Reigns after WWE appeared to be forced to manufacture a new world championship.
Seth Rollins was crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion during the Night of Champions event in Saudi Arabia. To say the least, it had been a long time coming. Not only did Seth Rollins become a world champion after a long wait, but WWE also debuted a new world championship.
Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 to unify the WWE and Universal Championships. Fans were unsure whether Reigns would defend both championships separately or simultaneously at the moment. We shortly learned that the titles would not be defended individually and that Reigns would be working on a part-time basis. Not only did Reigns unify both titles, but he also held them hostage for nearly a year.
Because Roman Reigns holds both world championships, the main roster has suffered. With both championships on Reigns’ shoulders, several superstars lost out on opportunities. There aren’t as many superstars who can challenge and compete for the WWE Universal Championship. The world championship scene appeared to be dead at times. As a result, WWE was compelled to create a new global championship. If Reigns was not going to surrender the belts anytime soon, WWE needed to do something to fix its global championship scene.
Today, Seth Rollins has been the World Heavyweight Champion for over two months. Rollins has defended his title more frequently in the last two months than Reigns has in the previous year. The tale surrounding Roman Reigns and The Bloodline has made for excellent television, but he has never been a combat champion. WWE’s introduction of the World Heavyweight Championship has allowed for a fighting champion and has provided superstars with opportunities to win a world championship that they did not previously have.
Seth Rollins attacks Roman Reigns for forcing WWE to produce a secondary championship when chatting with Ryan Satin.
“If Roman was doing what I’m doing there wouldn’t really be a need for a secondary championship, there wouldn’t be a need for another World Heavyweight Championship on RAW, because we would have somebody who was doing those things and like you said it would give direction to the characters of the show, it would give directions to the show itself, but because of the route he has chosen and what he wants to do with his schedule and his title reign is not what I’m doing, somebody’s gotta fill that void,” Rollins said.
Rollins goes on to explain that WWE attempted to make the US Championship feel like a world championship, but it never worked. He stressed how they would not have had these issues if Reigns had been defending his belt properly.
“We did our best with the US Championship for a while to do that but it never really felt like a World Heavyweight Championship, so there’s gotta be that person, that spot for everyone to get to and try and fight for, and I’m very happy to be that carrot that’s dangling there, and I think it’s a good thing, and again if Roman was doing all this stuff and defending the title all over the place then we wouldn’t have all these problems,” Rollins said.
What are your thoughts on Seth Rollins’ time as World Heavyweight Champion? Rollins has unquestionably shown himself as a fighting champion, proudly defending the championship throughout all shows. It’ll be intriguing to see how WWE handles his reign and, more broadly, the World Heavyweight Championship. I’m overjoyed that WWE has finally launched a new world championship after over two months.
