The two players have been compared almost every step of the way since the notorious draft day trade that saw the Dallas Mavericks acquire Luka Doncic and the Atlanta Hawks land Trae Young. A wide range of fans appear to pay attention during head-to-head contests, how their teams end each season, or their own overall stat lines over a year.
This hasn’t slowed down as both players continue to perform at a high level in the NBA, and the subject came up again when Young recently joined “The Draymond Green Show” at the UNINTERRUPTED Film Festival. As Bleacher Report revealed in footage of the encounter, Green asked the Hawks star about the “narrative” out there about how Young is compared to Doncic when the numbers for the two players aren’t all that different.
Young responded well to the matter, heaping respect on Doncic and even describing their connection, saying that he doesn’t stress that debate anymore but that “the real ones get it.” He also feels that winning a title will open the minds of any naysayers, and he delivered a memorable one-liner.
“I feel like, eventually, people are going to understand what it is and realize that it’s not that far off. We kind of do the same things,” Young said about Doncic.
For good measure, Green deserves some credit for posing the question, which remains an intriguing one. It’s easy to imagine a world in which the Golden State Warriors star may have a very great future in media once his NBA career is over.
