Premier League Summer Series
The Premier League Summer Series is an all-new pre-season competition that the English Premier League will host in the United States in July of 2023. Six teams will compete in this friendly tournament, in games played at five venues along the east coast of the US. Each team will play three matches, not facing the same opponent more than once.
History
The first Premier League tournament to be hosted overseas was the Premier League Asia Trophy, first held in Malaysia in 2003. That tournament has been hosted by various Asian countries every two years since then.
The Premier League’s physical presence in the US began in 2018 when it started hosting wildly popular Premier League Mornings Live fan festivals in various US cities during major matches. The Summer Series was initially slated to be held in 2022, but delays due to the COVID pandemic pushed the tournament to 2023.
Format
Each team will play three matches, not facing the same opponent twice. Although the Premier League has not announced whether a competition format that crowns a winner will be used, it will likely be based on points if a winner is determined, as no playoff or final matches are scheduled.
