What to expect from Julian Araujo in his first Barcelona appearance

Julian Araujo

Barcelona will play one final time during the 2022-23 season, in a friendly versus Vissel Kobe in Tokyo, Japan. It will be Andres Iniesta’s farewell appearance for Vissel, which will be the event’s main draw.

With the exception of a youngster like Marc Guiu, who might make his debut, most of the Barcelona players will be hoping to get the game over with and begin their vacation. It will, however, be a major event for Julian Araujo, who will almost certainly make his debut.

Many are unsure how Araujo will do, having not played since joining the LA Galaxy and being something of an unknown commodity to many fans.

“Julian Araujo is a fast, aggressive footballer who gets involved well. He is also powerful and with a good shot from a distance,” Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez told Sport.

“He’s training very well, really. I’m very happy with him, he’s a grateful guy and happy where he is, that’s important for him and for us,” he continued at the beginning of May.

Araujo has five Mexico caps and 109 games for the Galaxy, where he started his career. Next season, at the age of 21, will be his sixth in senior football. Barcelona will most certainly search for a right-back this summer to free up Jules Kounde to play in the midfield, but Araujo has a genuine chance to make an impact in this game and throughout the summer. Xavi has stated that they will wait to see how he performs in the preseason before making any judgments on his future.

Cules will recall that Alejandro Balde’s strong preseason performance earned him a berth on the first team this season. While few anticipate him to have the same ceiling as Balde, Araujo will undoubtedly be vying for a spot in the squad, beginning with a strong cameo against Vissel.
