Xavi has made an audacious prediction on who will win the Champions League this season.
The Barcelona manager was in a good mood ahead of their midweek La Liga meeting with Osasuna, as the Catalans inch closer to their first league crown since 2019.
Osasuna’s visit to Camp Nou comes just days before their Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, and Xavi teased that he would be rooting for Jagoba Arrasate’s underdogs in the final.
The former midfielder was also quizzed about the upcoming Champions League semifinals, in which Real Madrid will face his former coach Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
The city is on target for a triple of major trophies this season, something not witnessed in English football since Manchester United’s historic win in 1999, and Xavi believes they are on the verge of making history.
“I think it’s fair for City to win the treble.” They have the best coach and the best team in the world. According to Marca, “City is a mirror for us.”
On May 9, City will travel to Madrid for the first leg before hosting the defending European champions in Manchester eight days later.
